Unique stories
Lena
Lena is 8 years old, lives with her family in Hesse and, according to her mother Nicole, is ‘almost always a happy girl’.
We have known Lena for a long time.
Exactly since 2016, because that’s when her RB was diagnosed.
She was six months old when a unilateral RB was discovered by chance.
She lost her left eye and got her magic eye made of glass at the age of two and a half.
Since then, the family has been coming to the KAKS meetings in Düsseldorf regularly to catch up and meet other families with RB children.
Lena loves to spend time with her friends in the trampoline hall.
Two years ago, she was introduced to plastic eyes at our clinic and was immediately a big fan of this new material.
She was fitted with a plastic eye at the Marburg Epithetics Studio.
After a few weeks, the prosthesis was perfect.
“I really like my magic eye now.
It’s much smaller and lighter than my old glass eye.
But the best thing is that my eye is no longer so sticky,” reports Lena enthusiastically.
Lena then wrote us a long letter and sent us some great photos of the manufacturing process.
We were very happy about that.
Thank you Lena!
Lena is very open about her condition.
In kindergarten and later at school, our Elli and the KAKS books helped her a lot to tell her classmates about her artificial eye.
She really is very brave and independent.
But you can also count on Lena when things get “dicey”.
She is a member of the children’s fire department and has even been awarded the fire department badge thanks to her excellent specialist knowledge.
We think that’s really great!
We are already looking forward to welcoming Lena back soon.
