Elis, Elba and Elli – the new KAKS book

This recently published KAKS book is the story of a friendship: once a year, the girls Elis and Elba meet at Mr. Robert’s, who is an ocularist, in a very special place.
For very special people.
In this book, Elis and Elba tell the secret of their lives and the ocularist Mr. Robert tells about his work.
The production of an ocular prosthesis is illustrated very clearly and explained in a child-friendly way.
Elli, the one-eyed elephant, a little wind and a little tingling in the stomach are always there.
The children’s book author Birgit Hansson writes: “Rare insights into the everyday life of children who live with a prosthetic eye.
Enchanting, hopeful, inspiring!”

We at KAKS would like to say THANK YOU to Elis and Elba and their families for making this book possible.
Your strength and your joy of life are an inspiration – not only for other children who have retinoblastoma – but for all of us.
We are grateful that we were able to get to know you, that you told us about your secret and that you continue to show us what is really important in life.

We would like to thank Henriette Drüke and Ines Schweizer for the wonderful photographs, their patience and their loving treatment of the children.
Robert Leipold, who makes the most beautiful prosthetic eyes and is the most patient person in the world.
Jens Scheiwe, who set the pace for the book so that a story could be put on paper at all.
Professor Nikolaos E. Brechrakis, Director of the Eye Clinic at Essen University Hospital, for his support and valuable drawings.
And last but not least, Coppenrath Verlag, who supported us from day one, believed in us from the start and never found our unconventional ideas too much.

And we would like to thank the many families we met on the journey to this book project and our colleagues at the Children’s Eye Cancer Foundation for their valuable support and honest feedback.

Anyone interested in the book is welcome to write to us at info@kaks.de.
The book is also available in English!
