Sailing trip for the RB youth
All hands on deck! From June 8-11, 2023, the KAKS youth set off on their own for the first time: To the Möhnesee, together with coaches from the German Sailing League, Joachim and Daniela and Ole and Marie from KAKS.
It was a weekend that will have a lasting effect and will definitely be repeated.
Because: when sailing, you have to be able to rely on each other, work as a team, trust each other blindly, concentrate on the task at hand and sometimes be courageous – everyone did a great job!
We would like to thank the Katharina Witt Foundation for their financial support in organizing this weekend.
“It’s something special to be able to experience something like this!”
Marie, encourager.
“When sailing, you have to be able to rely on each other. You have to think together. You are a team. Nothing works alone, everything works together. The youngsters did a great job!”
Ole, coach.
“We got lost, we ate ice cream at midnight, we fell asleep lying on the stand-up paddleboard, we sang loudly to Miley Cyrus on a boom box in the middle of the lake – that’s all we’ll tell you. What exactly happened at Lake Möhne remains at Lake Möhne.”
“I was able to have a relaxed chat with others about how they do it with their eyes and nobody looked stupid.”
Julia.
“The wavelength was just right!”
Neele.
“I never imagined sailing would be so exciting!”
Fynn.
“When are we going back here – next time a whole week please!”
“Nahla impressed me. She is very quiet, introverted, sometimes I thought she was radiating a certain sadness. But at some point she opened up and said how nice it was. She liked sitting on the bank, watching the others and looking happy.”
Joachim, trainer.
“It’s unbelievable how much self-confidence the young people learned to sail in such a short time.”
Joachim, coach.
“It was like we were on an island of bliss the whole weekend.”
Marie, encourager.
I felt like I was sailing with friends.
With some professionals it’s more chaotic than with this group” Ole, coach.

“Mattis sailed gennaker with his 15% eyesight. He had the confidence to just go for it. And he did it, and he did it so well. Unbelievable – the strength, the courage of these youngsters.”
Joachim, coach.
“I would have been spared a lot if I had been able to experience such solidarity and understanding for one another as a child.”
Marie, encourager.
