ARTIFICIAL EYES

If enucleation is unavoidable, a visit to an ocularist is necessary.
Studies show that almost all people cope well with an ocular prosthesis in the long term.

Modern prostheses are designed not only to look aesthetically pleasing, but also to be comfortable to wear and fit well in the eye socket to ensure a natural appearance and boost the patient’s self-confidence.

More Information

About two weeks after the operation, when everything has healed and the swelling has subsided, the first prosthesis can be inserted.
The next eye prosthesis is fitted after just three months, and then annually.

Let the children do it!
Even if a prosthesis breaks, children will learn to handle it with ease.
Always rub or wipe the eye in the direction of the nose: otherwise the prosthesis may twist or fall out.

An artificial eye should be cleaned daily with lukewarm water.
But never at the sink or over tiled floors – one awkward movement and the prosthesis will break.
It is best to use a small bowl of water, a towel as a base and clean the prosthesis at a table in peace.
Cleaning is also possible with saline solution, but not necessary.
Never store the artificial eye in water.

If an artificial eye breaks – you need a new prescription.
It is not possible to repair a broken artificial eye. Important: the ophthalmologist must note on the prescription that the current ocular prosthesis has broken.
Bring all remaining fragments to the ocularist!
In this way, the shape of the ocular prosthesis can be reconstructed in the best possible way.
