KAKS continues to finance bus transportation for children with cancer after evacuation from Ukraine
In cooperation with Essen University Hospital, Charite Berlin and the Johanniter, KAKS has enabled hundreds of children with cancer to be transported to children’s hospitals throughout Germany since the outbreak of war.
They are now receiving further treatment there.
The seriously ill children and young people aged between three and 17 could no longer receive adequate medical care in Ukraine.
The patients come from different parts of Ukraine, including Kiev, Odessa and Lviv (Lviv).
They suffer from different types of cancer, including leukaemia, and require special medication and specialized treatment.
They were treated temporarily in a clinic in Krakow, Poland.
The aid campaign in cooperation with Essen University Hospital, Charite Berlin and the Johanniter was organized at very short notice and then sustainably through the mediation of Hans Krebs from the Order of St. John and Professor Dirk Reinhart from Essen University Hospital.
“We are very pleased that we were able to support the organization and onward transport of the children with cancer at such short notice. The cooperation with Essen University Hospital and the Children’s Eye Cancer Foundation worked very well,” says Armin Pullen, Head of Specialist Services and Facilities at the Johanniter in North Rhine-Westphalia.
