Little big heroine Nora

We would like to thank Nora and her family for sharing their story with us.
In 2021, the young family was diagnosed with retinoblastoma: “Nora’s left eye reflected the sun differently to her right eye,” says Nora’s mother.
“We had to wait eleven weeks for an eye specialist appointment, during which time Nora complained of headaches and seemed clumsy. In hindsight, we know that the retina was detached at this point and Nora could no longer see anything.”

Nora is treated in Essen. During the MRI scans, it quickly becomes clear that the eye can no longer be saved because the tumor had already taken up two thirds of the eyeball. The operation took place on October 12, 2021, less than 14 days after the initial diagnosis. Nora was already four years old at the time and had already noticed that something was wrong and that her eye was no longer working properly. Her parents: “We explained to Nora that her eye was broken and that we had to see if it could be repaired. But if it can’t be repaired, the eye is dangerous for her, it can make her ill and it absolutely has to be removed and that she will get a magic eye made of glass as a replacement.”

For Nora, the first few days after the operation are more of a relief than a burden. Five days after the operation, she is already whizzing along the beach with her friends. Three and a half weeks after the operation, the healing process is so far advanced that Nora gets her magic eye implanted. She is helped by all.❤️ and a family-oriented rehab center in Tannheim. There they come to rest and work through what has happened in such a short space of time.
