Cedric

We are delighted to have this incredibly likeable young man on the KAKS Encourager team!
Cedric is 31 years old and had a bilateral retinoblastoma.
His motto:

Pain is temporary.
Quitting lasts forever.
– Lance Amstrong

Who am I?

My name is Cedric, I’m 31 years old and I live with my girlfriend in the beautiful Allgäu region.
I spend most of my free time in the mountains hiking, cycling and skiing or on and in the Bavarian lakes swimming, SUP and boating.
I studied aerospace engineering and now work as a development engineer in the field of e-mobility on the water.
What is my diagnosis?
I was diagnosed with bilateral RB at the age of 1.5 by a fortunate coincidence.
The whole thing is due to a mutation, as there were no previous cases in my family.
Unfortunately, my left eye had to be removed and I had brachytherapy on my right eye.

How do I live with the RB?

I have virtually no restrictions in my everyday life.
I have a driver’s license, can do my technical job and play all kinds of sports as I please.
Only ball games are not necessarily one of my strengths due to the restriction in three-dimensional vision.
I go for check-ups every six months, but this always goes very quickly and is now part of my normal routine, just like the dentist 😉

How did I come to KAKS?

I was looking for other RB patients, how they deal with the issue of inheritance and an exchange of opinions in this regard.
