Laura

My name is Laura and I was born in 1988.
When I was 18 months old, I was diagnosed with retinoblastoma and had to have my left eye removed.
As I can’t remember the time before that, I practically grew up only being able to see out of one eye.
However, this never stood in my way or stopped me from doing the things I wanted to do.
There was hardly a sport I didn’t play.
From Bambini soccer, ballet, basketball and volleyball to rowing and aerobics, I enjoyed trying out everything.
I don’t experience any limitations in other areas due to my lack of sight and face the same challenges in life as most others.
The biggest one for me so far was my chemistry degree, but this hurdle has now also been successfully overcome and the next one is definitely waiting ;-).
Of course, I also experienced minor self-doubt during puberty.
Talking to someone who was affected back then helped me a lot and that’s why I now know how important it can be to talk to people who are affected.
