Verena is a journalist and founding member of the KinderAugenKrebsStiftung (Children’s Eye Cancer Foundation) and has been involved from the very beginning, and says: “Illness can unleash many fears and a feeling of powerlessness. I believe that knowledge can give power back to people in difficult situations. When the rare disease retinoblastoma strikes your life like a bolt of lightning, there is usually little knowledge at first. Fighting fear and powerlessness with more knowledge and helping children and their families in a very concrete way – that is the idea that I feel is particularly important at the Children’s Eye Cancer Foundation. I am grateful to be able to contribute ideas for implementation and networking.”
